ROCHELLE VOYLES
Rochelle Voyles is a Brooklyn based multi-disciplinary artist originally from the Midwest. She currently works with collage, paint, and fiber patterns to create works that fuse together the language of cloth, metaphysical space, and the digital image.
Her work transports the viewer to cosmic landscapes dense with pattern that exist somewhere between the dream realm, the void of space, and the inside of a computer screen. Underneath, they are a psychological and emotional questioning of the boundaries of the self in relation to an increasingly enmeshed humanity. They transform emotional overwhelm and nihilistic impulses into expressions of mystery, peace, and play.
She received her BFA in Fine Arts/Printmaking from Pratt Institute. She was a resident at the Chanorth Chashama Artist Residency in Pine Plains, NY during its April 2021 session. She has shown at galleries in New York such as Peninsula Art Space, La Bodega Gallery, The Local Project, and Real House. Her recent exhibitions include In-Between at The Local Project Gallery, Long Island City, NY; and “What Is Real?” a group show at The Real House, Brooklyn, NY.
